Dr. Joel L. Swerdlow is a professor, author, journalist, lecturer, editor, and project director whose writing has been translated into more than three-dozen languages.
His work—which reaches academic and popular audiences—focuses on scientific technological and public policy issues. He has been published in most major American newspapers and in many influential magazines. He covered the White House and Watergate trials for NPR, and served for ten years as a Senior Writer and Assistant Editor for National Geographic Magazine. One of his nine books was made into an NBC movie.
Dr. Swerdlow is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Texas, and has also taught at Johns Hopkins and Georgetown Universities. His most recent research, funded by the American Clean Skies Foundation, has focused on shale gas extraction as a case study in how technological innovation occurs.
He holds a PhD and MA from Cornell University, and a BA from Syracuse University.
