Wangari Maathai is the founder of the Green Belt Movement, a grassroots environmental organization established in Kenya in 1976. She has worked tirelessly to promote democracy, human rights and environmental conservation. She has won numerous awards for her work, including the 2004 Nobel Peace Prize.
