Brief Biography
Richard served as the Senior Science and Technology Research Analyst with the
New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), a
Japanese energy R&D firm in Washington, DC. With NEDO, Richard
reported on the major legislative, regulatory, and scientific developments in a
number of high technology fields, including:
- Green technologies, such as carbon capture and sequestration, solar photovoltaics, and plug in electric hybrids.
- Emerging technological fields, such as nanotechnology, biotechnology, and synthetic biology.
- Economic policies in these fields, including technology-based economic development, renewable portfolio standards, carbon emissions trading, and innovation-related measures.
Reports in these areas were used by NEDO and the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) to identify the state of current research and technologies across North America, as well as to provide them with analysis on the role that public policies helped to both stimulate and discourage such efforts.
During the spring of 2008, Richard was Campaign Manager for the primary of Mel Gagarin, a candidate for the New York City Council. He was also the Campaign Manager for Earle Douglass, a candidate for the Washington, DC Advisory Neighborhood Commission, a group that looks to articulate the voice and concerns of local residents to the City Council.
Richard is currently an MPA Candidate ’10 at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs of Syracuse University. He received his B.A. in Political Science at American University in Washington, DC.
